I’ll have been a Wacom customer for 22 years this Christmas. I’ve now owned 6 desktop-style tablets and two Cintiqs over the years. The past 3 Intuos purchases have been under duress to put it lightly. I realize when people talk about professionals who can’t be bothered to note some model refresh schedule or whether a company is coming out with a new version next month, and instead just need to buy something now… I’m absolutely one of those folks.
Recently I’d been having issues with my large Intuos Pro (2017) losing tracking. The computer would still detect it fine; the digitizer would just stop tracking my pen. Any pen. Any computer. Any OS. Any cable. It was the tablet itself giving me issues. I’d have to unplug it and plug it back in. Constantly. It’d sometimes work for as little as 5 seconds, and then drop pen tracking again.
What was extra frustrating is this thing still felt fairly new to me. I bought it in December 2022 (again, when my previous one up and died mid-project). It was about 3 1/2 years old when it started acting up, and I usually get 5-6 years out of these. I seriously use them until they fail.
So finally fed-up with this disconnect dance, I took a look at the current offerings. I checked out a YouTube review and the reviewer just happened to note that the 2017 Intuos Pro had a frequent disconnect issue that has specifically been addressed with the 2025 model.
Fucking sold.
Anywho, my new large Intuos Pro (2025) arrived yesterday and I’m quite happy with it. Beyond the simple fact of being able to pick up my pen and have it fucking work, I’m sorta enamored by the physical design. It’s impossibly thin and small, even given the large drawing area. The product box was the same footprint as my 2017 tablet. I’m constantly thinking about how so many of my medium Intuos tablets were physically larger than this thing.
The new pen is nice too; I like the customizability, despite it not looking as sleek as older pens. But the huge bonus for me is my Pro Pen Slim I bought for my last tablet is still compatible with this one. So that wasn’t a wasted purchase.
