Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1
My first Nuke job was performed on-site in Toronto, Ontario. I was hired based on my experience with Apple Shake, but discovered when I arrived that no one in the department was using it. So I went back to the hotel that night and watched some crash course videos from FX Guide, I believe titled “Nuke for Shake Users” or something like that. The next morning and I came in an tackled my first shot. My role was that of final paint cleanup on parallax edges during the stereroscopic conversion process. We used planar displays to check our work.
While the job was cut short due to the conversion process being abandoned for theatrical release, I had an absolute blast working in a VFX facility for the first time, spending time in Toronto, and seeing much of the film in an unfinished state prior to release. This also allowed me to check off an actual bucket list item of working on the Harry Potter franchise.
